Your Fall Reset Guide: Yoga, Sound Baths & Wellness Events to Welcome the New Season in Boston
September is the perfect time to recommit to your wellness routine. We spoke with the founder of Summer Street Wellness about what fall means for mind and body — plus every yoga and sound bath event happening in Boston this season.
There's something about September that feels like a second January. The air shifts, the pace changes, and suddenly you're thinking about routines again — what to keep, what to let go of, and what to finally start.
The autumn equinox arrives on September 22, marking the official transition from summer to fall. For many in Boston's wellness community, it's one of the most meaningful moments of the year — not just as a calendar event, but as an invitation to slow down, recommit, and reset.
We spoke with Krysta-Lyn Martinelli, founder of Summer Street Wellness in South Boston, about what this season means from a wellness perspective — and how yoga can help you move through it with intention.
The Case for a Fall Reset
For Krysta-Lyn, September isn't about discipline or getting back on track — it's about returning to yourself.
"Summer is meant to be fun," she says. "We should all be outside, soaking up Mother Nature at her warmest, traveling, being social, and enjoying the longer days. But as the season shifts, it is also a beautiful opportunity to return to the practices that ground us."
The timing matters more than people realize. "Commit to yourself now, so that when winter arrives, it does not feel like such a heavy load. When we establish supportive habits while we have energy and momentum, we are better equipped to move through the quieter, colder months feeling connected and cared for."
What Yoga Offers This Season
Beyond the physical benefits, Krysta-Lyn sees yoga as an anchor — something to return to when everything else is shifting.
"Yoga gives us a practice to keep coming back to, a way to stay grounded even when everything around us is changing. The seasons change, and we change with them, but we can always return to our breath, our body, and our practice."
"There is something really powerful about remembering that we always have that anchor within us. Yoga helps us stay connected to what is most essential and enduring, even as life and the world around us continue to shift."
Getting Back on the Mat
If you've been meaning to restart your practice but haven't quite gotten there, Krysta-Lyn's advice is refreshingly simple.
"Just start."
"One of the things yoga teaches us is to meet ourselves exactly where we are. It is always a practice, and you can always begin again. Life gets in the way sometimes, and that does not mean you have failed or fallen behind. There is no need for critical self talk. Just come back."
"Maybe return to the class that used to make you feel really good. It might feel a little harder the first time back, and that is okay. Give yourself grace, let the endorphins kick in, and remember why you loved it in the first place."
And if you're looking for community: "Grab a friend and try a new studio or class. Or come to Summer Street Wellness. You do not need to bring a friend to feel welcome. Our team is incredibly friendly and we genuinely want everyone to feel at home."
